Founder's Day at Gloucester Cathedral

On Thursday 27th June, we celebrated Founder's Day at Gloucester Cathedral, an evening filled with musical excellence and tradition. As guests arrived and took their seats, they were serenaded by our school orchestra. The repertoire included "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" by Mozart, "March from Scipio" by Handel, an original composition by our talented Year 10 pupils Aleksia Atanasova and Erika Millard, and "Hungarian Dance" by Brahms.

Charles Barrow (Year 9) performed a trumpet solo of "Prince of Denmark's March", accompanied by the orchestra, during the Cathedral procession. His playing was a fine addition to the event, demonstrating his skill and dedication.

Throughout the service, the orchestra provided beautiful accompaniment for the hymns "Be Thou My Vision," "Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer," and "Jerusalem”.

Our Crypt school choir, comprised of 95 students and 20 staff, Cantores Cryptienses, delivered exquisite performances of "Almighty and Everlasting God" by Gibbons, and Stanford’s "Magnificat in C", while the acapella choir captivated the audience with their rendition of "Lord, For Thy Tender Mercy's Sake."

Towards the end of the service, there was a palpable sense of unity and pride as everyone joined in singing the school song, "Carmen Cryptiense."

To conclude this memorable service, the orchestra performed Walton's 'Crown Imperial' with great energy, providing a fitting and uplifting conclusion to the event.

The evening was truly unforgettable, set against the majestic backdrop of Gloucester Cathedral. We are incredibly proud of our students, whose performances demonstrated remarkable talent and dedication.
