Working together with Renishaw to develop the next generation of engineers

Crypt-Renishaw partnership announced

We are delighted to announce that we have formed a partnership with local engineering company, Renishaw, from 22nd February 2016 for an initial period of three years. The Crypt School, together with Renishaw, will be working to develop the next generation of engineers.

Renishaw, based in Wotton-under-Edge, is one of the world's leading engineering and scientific technology companies. The company supplies products and services used in applications as diverse as jet engine and wind turbine manufacture, through to dentistry and brain surgery. It is also a world leader in the field of metal 3D printing – it is the only UK business that designs and makes industrial machines which ‘print' parts from metal powder.

The engineering enrichment work we already provide at The Crypt will be further developed as a result of the partnership, which is being led by Kevin Downes, Nigel Ledeux and Susan Green. This work will be promoted by the school and we will endeavour to form links with other primary and secondary schools in the area to further the interest in Young Engineers in Gloucestershire.

The specialist expertise and engineering facilities at The Crypt School – together with our developing link with Renishaw – has already produced a range of exciting projects, such as the F1 in Schools Technology Challenge, robotics, and software development. A growing number of students have progressed onto engineering-related degree courses and higher level apprenticeships; something we can further encourage and support through our new relationship with Renishaw and other schools.

Renishaw has already provided funding for Raspberry Pi mini computers which will be used to teach software development, both at The Crypt School and at other local schools, using training resources developed by Crypt students.

Our Key Aims:

We envisage that this partnership will enable us to:

  • become a regional centre for the delivery of high quality teaching and learning in science, computing and engineering;
  • encourage and support future engineers and scientists, and equip them with the knowledge and skills to successfully undertake careers in associated fields;
  • support science and engineering projects at The Crypt School, in our partner schools and in other schools in the region;
  • deliver professional development to teachers in our partner schools and in other schools in the region;

Further information will be made available via dedicated Web pages as the partnership develops
