Examinations

There is no magic to achievement. It's really about hard work, choices and persistence.     Michelle Obama

External and internal exams are held throughout the school year. All aspects of external exams and yearly internal formal exams for Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 are managed by the exams office. Contact the office for any exam related query.

These documents are for students taking any external exams, coursework, non-examination assessments or controlled assessments this year. They are published by the Joint Council for Qualifications and the school and students must comply with their instructions.
Please ensure you read these notices so you understand your responsibilities as an external exam candidate. The notices explain how you should behave before, during and after written exams, your conduct on using social media and examinations/assessments, how your personal data is processed by the awarding bodies, and the rules around the production of coursework, controlled assessments and non-examined assessments.

If you do not understand any of this information please visit the exams office and speak with Mrs Coughlin.

Breaches of these instructions must be reported to the exam boards and a range of sanctions, including disqualification, may be applied.

Internal Exams 2023-24

Year 10 internal exams are being held 10th April - 19th April . A copy of the timetable can be found here. Students with extra time have a different timetable.

Year 12 internal exams are being held 23rd April -3rd May. And a copy of the timetable can be found here.

Timetables will be emailed to all students.

External Exams

External exams are held in May and June and students are entered for these exams in February. A Statement of Entry will be given to each student to check following this to ensure that their details are correct. Personal timetables will be issued after Easter.

Please note that there are 3 contingency sessions: the afternoon of 6th June, the afternoon of 13th June, and all day on 26th June. These sessions would be used in the unlikely event that an exam had to be moved due to a local or national emergency, resulting in the exam being unable to take place when planned. Students should be available for all 3 contingency sessions. These sessions cannot be used to reschedule an exam that has been missed for ill health etc.

The 2024 A level timetable is here and the GCSE timetable can be found here

The school Exam Handbook contains important information about external exams. Please ensure you have taken some time to familiarise yourself with the rules and regulations. It takes you through the whole of the exam cycle from entries and your data to getting your certificates. It also explains what happens on the day of the exams, acceptable exams equipment and behaviour, what to do if you are ill or going to be late and reviews of your result in the summer.

Students must ensure that they read all the documents in the ‘JCQ Information for Candidates’ section below.

Exam Certificates

GCSE certificates will be given to students still at The Crypt in November. Former sixth form and Year 11 students are invited to return to school towards the end of December to collect their A level and GCSE certificates.

To arrange collecting your certificates at any other time, please email [email protected].sch.uk. We will provide them as soon as possible but ideally would prefer at least two working days' notice to action your request. Please include your full name, date of birth and a contact telephone number. Once confirmed, certificates will be available to collect from reception during school hours. Please bring current photo ID with you.

A friend or relative can collect certificates on your behalf, but we will require signed confirmation from you authorising a named person to collect them. The person collecting the certificates must bring a form of their current photo ID with them.

Exam certificates are held in school for 7 years. If you have lost or not collected your certificates in time you should contact the exam boards for replacements. More information can be found at www.gov.uk/replacement-exam-certificate. You may need to quote the centre number in any request - this is 57117.
