Crypt School captained by George Barton triumphed in the Bromsgrove Rugby 7?s.

Crypt School captained by George Barton triumphed in the Bromsgrove Rugby 7’s. A strong tournament of prestigious Independent and Grammar Schools they made light work of a tough pool beating Colstons 17-5, King Edwards Birmingham 29-0, Bredon 48-0 and Adams Grammar 32-0. Tries were shared around although the majority were scored by George Barton, Rufus Hulbert, Saugat Rai and Ajaz Lee. With conversions by Tommy Spencer and Barton. The semi-final was against the hosts who never really threatened to cross the line due to an organised defence by Crypt. The scoreline did not completely reflect Crypts dominance but they duly came out victors 12-0. The final was against another previous tournament winner Kirkham Grammar who had beaten Sir Thomas Rich in the other semi-final. The Crypt 7 were dominant from the outset building an unassailable 35-5 lead just after half time including tries from Hulbert, Rai and Lee. Barton adding the conversions. Kirkham managed two further scores in reply as Crypt used 4 replacements but still managed to hold on to a convincing 35-17 margin to win the competition, adding their name on the trophy lifted by Cheltenham College last year.
