On Saturday, 21st May, ten of our skiers from Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 competed in the South West Ski Championships at Gloucester Ski Centre. Ski teams from as far away as Millfield and Torquay competed with local Gloucestershire schools in a timed slalom course with an opportunity to win individual prizes and the champion’s title for the school.
Competitors were permitted to practise before the competition started and then each skier was timed over three runs with the fastest two to count. The boys across the age groups performed extremely well and in every case clocked a faster time in the second run and some in the third.
In the Year 7-8 novice section C held 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place with the following boys; Finn Stallard, Ollie Goode, Noah Hollywood and Xav Cleland. Finn Stallard then went on to win a medal for the fastest novice when combined with the racing teams.
Likewise in the Year 9-10 section, students Paul Bendall, Oliver King, Barnaby Grist, Joe Hicks, Jamie Evans and James Cook all performed extremely well throughout the competition. Jamie Evans was close behind the medals but James Cook’s superior times won him fourth overall and was Fastest Novice in a large and competitive field.
Well done to all!
