The south west regional National Festival of Concert Bands provided an opportunity for our big band to compete alongside other schools and county level bands at All Saints Academy, Cheltenham on Sunday 15th November.
Our newly formed big band performed three pieces: Cantaloupe Island, Rock this Town and an arrangement of Over the Rainbow, arranged by sixth former, Edi May. The performances highlighted highlighting tight ensemble performances and skills of improvisation. The band had been coached by Mr David Snow and Edi May. The competition was of an incredibly high standard and also featured county level jazz ensembles, featuring talented students from all over Gloucestershire (including several of our own musicians).
Our pupils performed very well and received a hard won bronze certificate and some really helpful and positive feedback. They also had the opportunity to hear the other bands play – crucial to inspire them to develop and grow further. Since our band was only formed very recently, this was an incredible way for us to really come together. We are incredibly proud of our achievement for a first performance which bodes well for the future.
