Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph

Remembrance Day at the Cenotaph

On Sunday I had the honour and privilege of taking five students, their parents and some old Cryptians to the Cenotaph in London. The Crypt School – uniquely – is the only school in the whole of the United Kingdom to actually take part in the ceremony. I am unable to find words that can truly describe the experience but my memories of the day will be forever with me.

As Big Ben rang out at 11am and the guns were fired, the silence that fell was haunting with only the rustle of the leaves to be heard. The on-looking crowds acknowledged our school as we marched by, the boys proudly wearing family medals.

As we entered Horse Guards Parade at the end of the march, Prince William took the salute and smiled affectionately at us.

Appropriately, we ended the day at Crypt, St Martin-in-the-Fields where refreshments were served.

A memorable day was had by all.
