On Monday 9th June our junior athletics team took part in the regional South West final in Yeovil. The schools cup involves a team of 14 athletes all taking part in 2 events each and to reach this stage you need to be ranked in the top 24 schools in the South West.
The boys did fantastically well in the first half of the event which involved all of the field events. At the completion of this we had a slender lead. It was then onto the track which I felt was our strongest events. An early disqualification put us on the back foot which meant everyone had to raise their game even further. Full credit to the boys they did just that and going into the final event, the relay, we had a 22 point lead over the other schools which meant all we had to do was to get the baton round needless to say they again did not let anyone down.
Their final winning score was 391 points over 20 points ahead of the next best school and the first time Crypt has won such a prestigious athletic event. We now await all the scores from all the other regions in the country to see if we qualify for the National Final.
Well done to all the boys who competed not only in the final but in the 1st round held at Cheltenham. Full results are available on the ESAA web site click on track and field cup, results index and then look for the results from Yeovil JB.
