As the first coeducational school year is now underway, girls’ sport has benefitted from an extremely successful start. The extracurricular program offered to girls at The Crypt enriches many students afternoons and evenings, as they are taking part in a plethora of sports on offer. With the appointment of Miss Cantin, England U17 and U19 capped netball player, the provision for netball is strong, along with multiple teachers who also assist with netball at the school.
Netball will be the main competitive sport throughout spring and autumn terms, with fixtures against other local grammar, comprehensive and independent schools. With the introduction of our new school netball dress, we hope to make netball a high profile, performance sport, alongside rugby for the boys at the Crypt. In the near future, we hope to develop a netball academy, allowing for additional technical and fitness sessions once new facilities are completed. In addition, to further inspire and progress our students, we offer a once yearly weekend netball tournament at a PGL centre. We also hope to lead a trip to watch a Netball Super league team play on a yearly basis.
Girls’ football and rugby will also remain a key priority that is popular amongst our students where we hope to compete regionally. We have developed a link for girls’ football with Cheltenham Town FC development coaches and UEFA A football coach, Chris Gooch. Both fantastic provisions will continue to develop the girls’ technical and tactical competence.
Girls at the Crypt will also have the opportunity represent the school in swimming, cross-country, handball, basketball, badminton, table tennis, cricket, rounders and athletics as they progress through the academic year.
Alongside the traditional sports, we are also excited to be able to offer girls trampolining and gymnastics as part of the PE programme and, depending on the student’s interests and ability, there are opportunities to take part in local competitions within these sports.
The PE Department use the school sport website to organise, manage and inform students and parents/carers of fixtures and results on a weekly basis. All the latest information about our sports fixtures can be found on the following:
